Angioplasty and Stenting
Angioplasty and stenting are minimally invasive treatments that open narrowed heart arteries and improve blood flow, often relieving chest pain and reducing heart attack risk. The procedure is typically quick, safe, and followed by a short recovery and long-term care plan.

Expert care to restore blood flow and confidence.
What Is Angioplasty and Stenting?
Angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure designed to open blocked or narrowed coronary arteries caused by heart disease. Our providers identify the patient’s conditions, run the necessary tests, and coordinate with interventional doctors to perform the angioplasty. The interventional physician guides a tiny balloon through your blood vessels to the affected artery, inflating it to widen the passage and restore healthy blood flow—all without the need for open-heart surgery.
Often, a small mesh tube called a stent is placed during the procedure to keep the artery open long-term. Most stents are coated with medication to prevent re-narrowing and help your artery heal smoothly.
Why Might You Need This Procedure?
If you’re experiencing chest pain, shortness of breath, or other signs of coronary artery disease, angioplasty with stenting can be a life-changing solution.
What to Expect During and After the Procedure
You’ll be awake but relaxed during the procedure using live X-ray imaging to guide the catheter and balloon to the right spot. You might feel some mild discomfort when the balloon inflates, but it’s brief.
Afterwards, you’ll rest under observation for a few hours or overnight. Most patients return home soon and receive clear instructions on caring for the catheter site and medications, including antiplatelet drugs to keep your blood flowing freely around the stent.
What Are the Risks?
While angioplasty and stenting are generally safe, some risks include bleeding, infection, or rare complications like artery damage or allergic reactions. The doctors will discuss these risks carefully with you to ensure you feel confident and informed every step of the way.
