Echocardiograms
An echocardiogram is a safe, noninvasive ultrasound test that creates detailed images of your heart to evaluate its function and guide treatment.
See Your Heart in Action
Echocardiograms provide clear, real-time images of your heart—no surgery, no stress.
What Is an Echocardiogram?
An echocardiogram—or “echo” for short—is a safe, noninvasive test that uses sound waves to create real-time images of your heart. It helps your doctor understand how well your heart is beating and how its valves and chambers are functioning. At CASL Health in Lubbock, Dr. Aurelio Cervera and his team use echocardiography to get detailed insights into your heart’s health—without any needles or incisions.
Why Might I Need One?
Echocardiograms are often recommended if you’re experiencing symptoms like shortness of breath, chest discomfort, irregular heartbeats, or swelling. They’re used to detect a wide range of heart conditions including:
- Heart valve issues
- Weak or thickened heart muscles
- Fluid buildup around the heart
- Congenital heart defects
- Damage from past heart attacks
Whether it’s a basic evaluation or part of a deeper investigation, Dr. Cervera relies on these tests to guide treatment and provide peace of mind to patients across Lubbock and the surrounding area.
Types of Echocardiograms
There isn’t just one kind of echo. Depending on what we’re looking for, we may use:
- 2D and 3D echo to see the heart in motion
- Doppler and Color Doppler to check blood flow
- M-mode echo for precise measurements
Each type offers unique insight, allowing for a well-rounded look at your heart’s performance.
What to Expect
There’s no special prep for an echo. You’ll lie comfortably on your side while a trained technician applies a bit of gel and gently moves a small device across your chest. You might be asked to breathe a certain way during the scan. The whole test usually takes less than an hour, and you’ll be able to go about your day right after.
Is It Safe?
Yes. Because it uses sound waves (not radiation), echocardiography is considered very safe. It’s completely noninvasive, and any discomfort is usually minor and temporary.
At CASL Health, your heart is in expert hands. Dr. Cervera and his team are proud to provide advanced cardiac imaging in a setting that’s personal, professional, and focused on your comfort. If your provider recommends an echocardiogram, you’ll be supported every step of the way—right here in Lubbock.
