Leadless Pacemakers
A leadless pacemaker is a tiny, wire-free heart device implanted directly into the heart to treat slow heart rhythms with fewer complications and faster recovery.
A Smaller Pacemaker, A Bigger Breakthrough
The Future of Heart Rhythm Treatment
A leadless pacemaker is a small, self-contained device placed directly inside the heart to help manage slow or irregular heart rhythms. Unlike traditional pacemakers, it has no leads (wires) and no chest incision, reducing the risk of infection and other complications. The device is about the size of a large capsule and is delivered to the heart through a minimally invasive procedure via a vein in the leg.
Once in place, the leadless pacemaker sends electrical impulses to regulate the heartbeat as needed. This technology is often recommended for patients with certain types of bradycardia (slow heart rate) or those who are not good candidates for a traditional pacemaker.
Benefits include:
- No chest incision or surgical pocket required
- Lower risk of lead-related complications
- Quick recovery with minimal activity restrictions
- Long battery life, often lasting 8–13 years
Procedure & Recovery:
The implantation is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation. Most patients go home the same day or the next, resuming light activities within a few days. Regular follow-up visits help monitor the device’s performance and battery status.
Leadless pacemakers are not suitable for every patient, but for the right candidates, they offer a safe, effective, and discreet alternative to traditional pacing therapy.
